My First District Staff PD at Chaparral Elementary School

First, I want to thank all of the awesome faculty and staff at Chaparral for being so helpful, welcoming and engaged. It was a great pleasure working with you all yesterday.  A shout-out goes out to Alina Silvestre for helping organize the meeting, A special shout-out to Ronette Kaplan, who is retiring at the end of the school year, yet showed extra enthusiasm in learning the different features – the embodiment of a lifetime learner.

Yesterday’s PD was the first in which I have participated in the district and I was greatly encouraged to see how enthusiastic and passionate the staff was after teaching hours - you all must be all-stars in the classroom!

Upon the direction of the principal, Rosemarie, I lead a session on useful functions of Zimbra, such as Calendar, Briefcase and Tasks. We were able to also develop a system for checking out laptops through the Calendar to prevent the frustration that comes with overlapping times. We also discussed technology-based programs that support curriculum in the classroom. I will be adding to the list I have started, which may be helpful to other elementary schools:  http://blogs.lvusd.org/edtech/k-5/

I look forward to continuing my support of Chaparral and meeting more of the staff at the other school sites to which I am assigned.
